It’s exciting any time we get to introduce you to a new physician with Alegent Health Clinic – but the three I’m about to show you come with an impressive set of resumes. James Cummins, M.D., William Jurgensen, M.D., and Benjamin Ryder, M.D., are all familiar names throughout the area – likely because they’ve cared for the women of Omaha for a combined total of 83 years. Or, to put it in different terms, the last time all three of them weren’t practicing around here, Wilson Phillips was topping the charts (and Milli Vanilli still had a Grammy).

Let’s meet this impressive trio:

Dr. James Cummins is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who has been in practice right here in Omaha since 1973. He received his medical degree from Creighton University Medical Center, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Creighton University affiliated hospitals.

You may be interested to know that Dr. Cummins’ successful career started in a rather unusual place: a tree. A serious fall landed him in a lot of pain – and the care and compassion he received during his recovery set him on his path to medicine.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Cummins is also the proud father of five daughters and he enjoys spending his free time playing golf and riding his motorcycle.

Dr. William Jurgensen is also a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with just under 25 years of experience caring for the women of Omaha.  He received his medical degree from Creighton University Medical Center, where he also went on to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology.

With a physician for a father, Dr. Jurgensen says he grew up knowing that medicine was the career for him. And he considers it a gift to work in women’s health because not only is he able to witness God’s greatest miracle, childbirth, but through their experiences together, he’s also able to become a part of his patient’s families.

Dr. Jurgensen is also the proud father to five children ranging in age from 18 to 26. Outside of medicine, he enjoys golf, photography, fishing, reading, Apple computers and – as you might imagine considering the ages of his children – paying college tuition.

Dr. Benjamin Ryder rounds out this impressive list of board-certified OB/Gyns. Like his partners, he received his medical degree from Creighton University Medical Center and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology from Creighton University Affiliated Hospitals before starting in on a practice that has spanned more than 20 years right here in the metro.

A self-professed “people person,” Dr. Ryder says his favorite part of his job is helping his patients understand and feel comfortable with what’s going on with their bodies – whether during a pregnancy or before a surgery, both of which can be scary times for a patient.

When he’s not with patients, Dr. Ryder spends his time with his four children or out enjoying the pool, bicycling and weightlifting (though not all at once).

Next week, we’ll introduce you to Alegent Health Clinic’s newest pediatrician: Sarah Broadhead, M.D.
