As senior vice president and chief quality officer, Richard Miller, D.O., leads initiatives to maintain quality as an integral part of the culture of Alegent Health. Prior to this role, Dr. Miller served in leadership roles at Wellmark, Inc., Avera Health System and Adirondack Medical Center. He has also served as a consultant for clinical quality and education at The Institute for Healthcare Quality Research and Education and as a Senate Health Policy Fellow under Sen. Edward Kennedy in the late 90’s.
Before entering healthcare administration, Dr. Miller was a practicing family physician at Mercy Medical Clinics in Des Moines. He earned his medical degree as a doctor of osteopathy from Des Moines University, completed residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City and earned a master’s in health administration at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Health Reform and the Chinese Curse
The Chinese curse goes something like this, “May you live in interesting times” (again). In the mid-nineties, health care reform was the hot topic and health care executives and clinicians were scrambling to figure out how to respond to the myriad of regulations. Blogging is an art form that I have not quite mastered; well in fact this one is a first of sorts. So far I’ve replied to the comments of others comfortable in my anonymity, just waiting to see what response I would receive in return. Today is different.
