ACOs: A new way to cut health care costs?
For those of you tracking developments in health care reform, it’s likely that you’ve been hearing the terms, “Accountable Care Organization” and “Medicare Shared Savings” a little more often lately. But do you know what they really mean? If not, then we hope that the following article – which was originally developed for our staff and physicians – will help you better understand the changes that are likely headed our way. Health Reform … One Year Later
At times it’s hard to believe it’s only been one year since President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act – better known as healthcare reform – into law. At this time last year, millions of high-risk adults had nowhere to turn when insurance companies denied them coverage. Insurance companies could dictate how much money you could spend on essential services, like hospital stays, during the course of your life. Where Do We Go From Here?
Blogging is an art form that I have not quite mastered; well in fact this one is a first of sorts. So far I’ve replied to the comments of others comfortable in my anonymity, just waiting to see what response I would receive in return. Today is different. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been doing … Continue reading

Do you know what health reform really means to you and your family? Have you even been able to keep up with the on-again off-again debate and continued rhetoric (from both sides of the aisle) without getting more confused than ever? You’re not alone. Take, for example, this recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey which found that one in five people think the health reform legislation was repealed (it wasn’t) and that it is no longer law (it is). Another 26% of people either didn’t know or didn’t care about the … Continue reading

Health Reform … Six Months Later
It really is hard to believe that it’s been a full six months since President Obama signed a sweeping health reform package into law. But for the millions of Americans affected by these changes, September 23rd was been a long time coming. The regulations that took effect yesterday mean that the more than 30,000 people who would have lost their insurance this year because they reached their lifetime limits or had it rescinded will keep their coverage; it means that more than 72,000 children who have been denied coverage due … Continue reading
